Zang Toi delivered his signature dramatic flair for Fall 2014 with his collection Shanghai 1930s ‘Paris of the Orient’. Decadent, glamorous looks influenced by the era, including makeup and hair inspired from Chinese socialites of the 30s. Three keywords are sultry, sexy and seductive. Jade green, deep wine, and menswear greys played off black. Wine brocade, fur accents and lavish beaded details on his evening dresses, dramatic opera coats and wraps. If you are into old school Hollywood glam, this is the collection for you.
Although Zang Toi’s elegant eveningwear steals the spotlight, his tailoring is exceptional, and his women’s suits in menswear patterns of black & white herringbone, glen plaid and tweed were some of my favorites. Several men’s suits were also shown.
Zang Toi is known for his theatrical shows and this season focused attention on the jade color with runway lights and even one model’s hair. My photos (the first 5) give you a different vantage point than runway photos you usually see. I’m standing at the top of the bleacher seats, looking down from the side of the runway.
Vimeo video by ZangToi shows the full runway show, inspiration, and great behind-the-scenes peeks.
